Holiday Photos

We ventured out to this beautiful, quiet little spot to create images for Gabby’s holiday card. It’s always such an honor to photograph a photographer!

Gabby has been there from the beginning of my adventure in moving to California. Her support and belief in what I am capable of as not only a photographer but as a person is immeasurable. She is insightful, honest, and always striving to become a better person so that she can give more not simply just to be the best or have more. I admire that in you, Gabby and am lucky to know you. Thank you for believing in my work!

Cooks Confab, Little Italy Mercato & A Reason To Survive

Cooks Confab Little Italy Mercato 001 Cooks Confab, Little Italy Mercato & A Reason To Survive

The Little Italy Mercato in downtown San Diego is far more than your typical Farmer’s Market. From book signings, to chef demonstrations, showcases of talented artists and musicians, and of course delicious local vegetables, fish, and fine food purveyors, Catt White and her team at the Mercato are consistently bringing San Diegans the very best. Last Saturday, December 5th was no different when Cooks Confab teamed up with Slow Food Urban San Diego and the Mercato to bring us “Street Food” a benefit for ARTS (A Reason to Survive). The very best of San Diego’s chefs came out, many of them with their children, to give us a taste of their favorite Street Food and help a very worthy organization.

The Heart Gallery

It was about 8 am when I was making my way up the 15 freeway to meet my friends Gabrielle Fox and Joel Navarro in the Fallbrook area. The radio was playing softly and my camera gear sat silently beside me. The heat blowing out at my feet was starting to warm me up while tears slowly fell down my cheeks. I’m writing to remind myself of that moment so that I can always hold that feeling inside me.

Several times a year Gabby, Joel and I meet up with Sherry and Jill of Riverside County Adoptions to photograph children in the foster care system for Riverside County’s Heart Gallery, a traveling exhibit of fine art photography of kids in need of finding adoptive homes. The Heart Gallery focuses on children who are more difficult to place because they are older or are in sibling sets. We create beautiful, expressive portraits not only for the gallery but for the children to have when they are matched with their new families. You can learn more about the Heart Gallery, a national organization in over 40 states, by clicking here.

Maybe I was crying out of pity. I know that at least a few of those tears were out of gratitude. I have been blessed with the most amazing family. I didn’t deserve the childhood I had any more than these kids do. But I was lucky. And in that moment, I felt in the very core of me how lucky I was. I know that pity doesn’t make things happen.. it doesn’t change anything. Only action ever makes a difference. So I wiped pity off my cheeks and loaded my camera, my small way of acting, into Gabby’s car and smiled and laughed the rest of the way to Riverside. I was looking forward to a fun day with some amazingly strong children. I was looking forward to being even just the tiniest part of their stories. And I was also looking forward to picking up my parents at the airport later that evening for their winter visit to San Diego. My hope is that each of these children find that family that makes them feel so lucky to have.

Katie & Louie – Wind n Sea Engagement Photography

Katie and Louie met and fell in love in high school and have been together ever since. Louie proposed to Katie while on vacation in Denver at the end of the Bronco’s game. He knew she wouldn’t expect the proposal that weekend because it was his birthday. She said yes. Of COURSE she said yes. But didn’t remember to until later that evening when Louie pointed out she had never actually said yes. :) While she knew that she and Louie would get engaged she was totally caught off guard in the moment. It makes me smile picturing their engagement because Louie and Katie are the nicest people. They deserve every bit of the happiness the future holds for them. And even though I live in San Diego, I am an Eagles fan.. so their love of the Broncos isn’t a deal-breaker in our friendship ;) Thanks for coming down and spending your evening with me!! Wendy & Lamont

Los Angeles Wedding Photography 001 Wendy & Lamont

Wendy never told me the exact reason she chose this photo from her engagement session to have displayed at her wedding. But I’m willing to bet that she smiles seeing this particular photo because both she & Lamont are looking out at the big blue pacific, smiling, and genuinely looking forward to the new life they are beginning together. It’s a reflection for her of how far both she and Lamont have come as individuals and symbolic of them starting the next wonderful chapter in their lives as a team.

Lamont is a Pastor and he and Wendy were married in his church. It was a very special experience. Never have I heard applause for the groom’s entrance into the church as well as the bride’s walk down the aisle. Wendy, Lamont, I’m sure you already know this but you are loved so very much by your friends and family. It’s easy to see why. You are both kind, generous and warm people. And so much fun. Thank you for having Gabby and me! I’m so excited for all that life has in store for you together!!

When we saw the text over the entrance to the sanctuary I smiled knowing how true this felt for Wendy. Photo by Gabby:

Wendy performed a surprise Hula dance for Lamont. It was so beautiful and classy:

Right as Wendy finished her dance this beam of light came down on her. It was a beautiful, fleeting moment:
